Dig Where You Stand

Dig Where You Stand is presenting an immersive screening of the award-winning shadow puppet film. Created by multimedia artist Cole Morris, this film is based on the life of Joe Phillips, a Jamaican steelworker who, in 1971, built a boat from scrap metal so he could leave Sheffield and return to Jamaica.

Using intricate shadow puppet design, stop motion and real audio from local archives, Cole reimagines this journey and takes audiences through an epic voyage of sea serpents, old soldiers and space rockets. In doing so, his film explores themes of immigration, war, displacement and the enduring pull of home.
